Zachary Daniel Concrete finished a 200-square-foot personal music studio in Travelers Rest, South Carolina with a two-tone decorative stain — a bark brown base coat layered with two coats of fawn, developing a three-tone leathery, tobacco-brown floor that pulls dark, medium, and light tones out of the same concrete slab. The space is a dedicated band practice room — sound treatment on the walls, the whole setup — and the homeowner wanted a floor that matched the character of the room rather than fighting it.

The existing concrete had a broom-swept exterior finish, the kind of rough utility surface that doesn't do anything for an interior. ZDC ground it down to expose clean, prepared concrete, then applied a bark brown base coat across the full 200 square feet — a deep reddish-brown that laid down the darkest tone layer in the floor. Two coats of fawn, a golden-brown, went over the bark brown to build the mid-tones and the lighter areas where the fawn layered thickest.

The interaction between the two colors across the slab is what Zach was after: pulling three distinct tones — dark bark brown, a warm medium, and lighter fawn highlights — out of just two stain colors, creating the kind of multi-tone, leathery depth that reads like tobacco-cured leather in warm light.
