Residential Stamped Concrete Pool Deck Overlay in Taylors, SC

Faded Stamped Deck Restored to Modern Charcoal Stone — No Tear-Out Required

Zachary Daniel Concrete restored a large residential pool deck in Taylors, South Carolina that had aged out of its original look. The existing surface was stamped concrete that had faded badly under years of sun, pool chemicals, and weather — the decorative pattern was still there but the color and texture had washed out into a chalky, mottled gray-tan covered in efflorescence.

The homeowner had two real options: tear the whole deck out and start over, or resurface it. ZDC built a plan around resurfacing — a decorative stamped concrete overlay applied directly over the existing deck. The crew cleaned and profiled the original surface, applied a bonding primer to lock the new material in, and troweled a polymer-modified cement overlay across the entire deck. While the overlay was still workable, the team stamped a weathered stone texture across the field and worked custom charcoal coloring into the surface for depth and richness. After cure, the crew cut clean control joints into the new surface in a regular grid, then sealed everything with a UV-stable, pool-rated sealer carrying non-slip aggregate to handle wet feet and bare feet safely.

The result is a pool deck that looks brand new — same footprint, same pool, completely different feel — with the modern charcoal stone aesthetic the homeowner wanted, without the cost or disruption of a full demolition and rebuild.
